There is no historical information on the origin of the church; some architectural features of the building lead to place the dating between the end of the tenth and the middle of the eleventh century, others suggest an even older dating
The ruins that have been preserved to this day are identified with the church dedicated to San Pietro, in the locality of "Sugliaco" where an inhabited center once stood. It would therefore be the ecclesia suliacj mentioned for the first time in a document dated 14 June 1227.
An alternative hypothesis is that it is the church of San Pietro di Livione, a hamlet that at the beginning of the 13th century contributed to the foundation of the village of Piverone
Very interesting. A hobby of mine is studying old architecture and I was guessing that church was mid 12th century. |
