A few days ago I posted an image of an irrigation windmill, becalmed and static.
On today's walk, there was sufficient breeze to generate movement and the rusty squeaking.

It can be heard for several hundred metres in any direction as you approach.

The external microphone wasn't attached so the sound would have been picked up by the internal mic. I may have had my thumb over the hole

No, in fact, when I look at the device, the three microphone holes are at the top, just under the gimbal. Far removed from where I hold it via the tripod at the base.

Yes. One thing I have found, is that if you zoom in to a subject, any noise it happens to be making gets louder.

Thats really really odd,   Ive never now a video camera do that before.

Very nice Blériot.  I'm not a windmill expert but the wheel appears to be a bit out of balance as it rotated.  Most probably because some of the spokes are different lengths.  Got to admit I didn't hear any squeaking.  Could just be my hearing is going bad.

No it was straight out of the P2. I commented on the effect to Monty some weeks back, and he was familiar with the facility on camcorders he has owned.
