The question you asked in the post title was 'what is the best video editing software', and the answer is undoubtedly Da Vinci Resolve.

DaVinci is indeed VERY GOOD - just not quite suitable for my requirements ... Everyone has to find "their" video editing program themselves - depending on the requirements, one is better than the other;)

It depends on the hardware. My iMac is just too old to run Da Vinci Resolve smoothly. Shotcut runs just fine.

Thanks for sharing your informative video Peter.    What video editing software to use is somewhat driven by the hardware you own (i.e. Windows, MAC).  Personally, I've used OpenShot, iMovie, Filmora X, and a few others.  Lately, I've mostly used Filmora X.

I don't think there is an answer to that question as everyone has their own preferences

For colors editing is without doubts Resolve DaVinci...for pure editing is Premiere Pro with AE...in rest is just software for amateurs and barely semi-pros...very semi.

The best SW is useless if you can't buy it .... Only the studio version uses the GPU and thus brings a speed advantage (and has additional features, filters, etc.). Unfortunately, this version is currently not available (if you have found a dealer who offers the activation key, for example)!
How difficult can you make it for a prospective buyer who is willing to buy?

I prefer Davinci resolve Studio version, on youtube there are many video's from Casey Faris which you can learn easy. Start with the crash course.

It depends on what experience you already have. You may have to read about how easy the program is to use. I myself has had Pinnacle Studio ultimate since version 8 and every one of then up to now Pinnacle studio 25 Ultimate. But it takes time to learn all the bits that you can do with the program. If no experience, start with the simplest free program to give you an idea of how it works and then move up. If more fancie programs you also have to think of what you computerr hardware can handle.

It really depends on what kind of video editor you are. If you're a novice, those professional editors such as Davinci and Premiere will drive you crazy at the start and the learning curve will be much more longer. While in some sort of beginner-level editors like Filmora and TunesKit AceMovi, you can easily apply many presets to your video and do some tweaks instantly.

Many will say Premiere Pro, but for non-professional applications, I use Wondershare, Filmora Pro. It's got a great drag and drop interface if Premiere seems too complicated.

My favorite software is ffmpeg... It's not easy, it uses the command line, but it can do everything for free. I use it to merge/split/trim videos without re-encoding.
