I know there are lIPO batteries in the drone. What is the battery type in the RC Controller? I assume it isn't LIPO.

That’s a great question.. I do know I read before in one of these forums that dji wouldn’t sell the RC battery

Hello there Astro Bob. Thank you for reaching out and for the inquiry. The type of battery for the DJI Mini 2 remote controller is Li-ion battery. The battery capacity of the DJI Mini 2 remote controller is 5200 mAh and it takes 4 hours to fully charge the remote controller using 18W charger. Thank you.

Thats good news. It means you do not have to keep the controller at storage charge.

Ad it is also a bit less worry about battery failures, danger, etc. than the LIPOs in the MINI II drone. Thanks all for the prompt answer.

The M2 RC battery is a common 3.7V 18650 Li-Ion battery with a custom connector.  These batteries are offered in a variety of mah capacities, usually around 2200 - 3500 mah - the 18650 designation actually specifies the dimensions (18 x 65mm).  It's not easy to properly solder leads to these batteries, so you probably want to find one with some kind of leaded connector attached (like the one referred to in the other post) and splice the original DJI lead to it.

So, even though I store my drone batteries at 40-60% charge, I can store my controller at 100% charge?

A little supplement. In both rc to mini 3 pro the batteries are actually identical, except that they are Li-ion batteries with the less common chemical composition of LiNiMnCoO2 - NMC. They are a bit lighter than the other 18650s. Their nominal voltage is 3.69V and the maximum voltage is 4.25V.

Prismatic cells do swell when stored at 100%. I haven't heard of a case of cylindrical batteries swelling, but it's definitely not advisable to keep them 100% frequently.
