Should I fully unfold the drone (arms and gimbal protector) whenever I do that? Currently I am but it's annoying. The reason I do that is because when I start the drone it does its initial checks for the propellers and gimbal

Hello there. Thank you for reaching out and for these information you have given. As posted above if you are just going to download footage on the said DJI drone you do not need to unfold the arms of the said DJI drone. Thank you.

Thank you for the info. Same for gimbal protector, yes? Even if the drone complains "gimbal stuck"?
