The Eagle stone, like all such stones, seem to absorb the feelings brought to them. I remember it from my chidden playing on it but also from moments of solitary contemplation. As such, and combined with its isolation, it can give a forbidding sense of knowledge and life.
However, in addition to the above, 'Eagle' is a corruption of 'Aigle' a Norse God with Saxon and Celtic variants. Legend has it that it once threw stones at approaching armies, would move around and would turn about if it heard a crow call. There was a time when all the men of Baslow would have to climb it before they could get married. This is no longer the case but there has been at least one spotting of this happening, with a man in full wedding suit, about 10 years ago.
