Hi,

I am building a quad using the DJI F450 Frame. I am using the following:
1. Emax 2213 935 Brushless Motors
2. T Motor No BEC 20A ESC
3. Naza-M Lite GPS Combo FC
4. FlySky TH 9x Radio
5. Turnigy 9x 8Ch Receiver

As my ESCs are No BEC, hence they do not have the red power wire. Given this, would the receiver need a separate battery for power or would the FC pass on power through the servo leads? The Naza Lite comes with a PMU which needs to be soldered to the battery terminals on the power distribution board. Some blogs say that power from ESC is not required while some say that one ESC needs to pass power.

While tuning the ESCs I connected them to the receiver on Channel 3 (for throttle) and connect a 1cell battery to the battery port on the receiver and solved the problem. However, not sure if power will pass from FC to reciever once I hook it up.

Please help.

No, you can use OPTO ESC's.

The NAZA get his power from the PMU Module. (Power Management Unit)

The receiver does not need a separate battery.

Yes. Use the provided ESC with the X3 connector to the receiver - this supplies clean 5v to the controller and senses the on-board battery health.
