The castle is better known because of the huge animal park right next to it. But the castle itself is a sight of its own: a true fairytale place. Building started 1334 and the castle was used to guard the nearby place of pilgrimage Gottsbühren (the body of Christ was supposed to be found there 1330!). In later times the castle was used as a base for hunting. Restored in 1957 it now houses a hotel.
Later on there's another castle, Burg Stichelnstein, that is much plainer. Still: can't have enough castles.

No. Just nothing in wikipedia. Maybe it wasn't used in ww2 - it's in the middle of nowhere and has no military strength.

It reminds me of Bürresheim Castle which was used as a German ww2 base in the film Indiana Jones and the last crusade.

You should travel to Scotland or Wales. There're tons of great castles and a lot of history.

Already had Scotland on my visit list but will add Wales.  Now I need this pandemic to run its course so travel is permitted once again.  In the meantime I will just have to enjoy castles through photos and videos.
