Hi everyone. New to the forum and my Mavic pro crashed into the Ocean today Was flying it over the water in Costa Rica (safe height, away from the no-fly zone nearby) taking a video and all of a sudden got a message saying that the drone will land in 14 seconds, nothing I did (home button, elevation) worked. Initially, it refused to land in the water a few times but then crashed in, the entire process was out of my control.Did this ever happen to someone? Actually, it looks like you were almost dead center in a DJI No-Fly zone.  There was a warning at 14 seconds into your flight and another at 2 minutes, 7 seconds.  According to DJI Geo Zone map, you were almost directly in line with the approach path for the Aeropuerto Nosara airport.  There are others here on the forum that can dig deeper into your flight log, but it looks to me like it did what it was designed to.  I really expected more warnings, but the two look like they were ignored.  Sorry about your drone though.

Thanks Brad for the reply. I flew the drone over the beach for 15 minutes prior and then switched battery and went again. The no-fly zone alerts were for limited altitude which I did not exceed. My issue is that this happend all of a sudden, I flew the drone close to shore for a while to make sure everything's okay and gradually increased the distance as you can see in the log. I am trying to understand why it did what it did at the time that it did it...

Hi,

Had a look at your flight.

I am no specialist in no fly zones or airport zones ect, but the data in the log shows

a) 2 times : "Current RTH route will pass a no-fly zone. Pay attention to the aircraft's position to avoid RTH failure"

b) Aircraft will automatically descend in 14 ; wich means normally craft try to lower to avoid height limitations of the zone, but your drone was flying at 17.5 meters....but in the airport zone.

c) During RTH it entered or was alreadythe airport zone, so it did a " AirportAvoidLanding", software does not allow a drone to fly through an airport zone in RTH mode.

If all is correct you have to check the zone and the positions of your drone, but this is how DJI software works.

I checked the no fly map, the height limit Nosara airport is 60 meters at drone position. So mayby your drone was still alive when you did not engaged the RTH.

But ofcourse if DJI software is really intelligent than it could allow your drone to RTH at 30 meters where the limit is 60 meter. But nah, because the reference height to the RTH height setting is reference to take-off position, so your 30 RTH height could be higher than the actual 60 meters AGL/ASL height.Plus flying already in the airport zone it will just land.

cheers

Hi,

Had a look at your flight.

Thank you for the analysis, I am pretty new to this so this is very helpful.
Just to confirm my understanding, the first warning message was in row 8383 "Aircraft will automatically descend in 14", at that point I tried to bring it back but the countdown continued so I stressed out and hit the RTH button trying to override the countdown. What I am trying to understand is what caused the countdown to begin...

Hi,

If the pre warning msg "automatically descend in n seconds" is always followed by a AirportAvoidLanding than your drone was flying in the forbidden airport zone (that circle around an airport)

On seconds thoughts, switching to RTH did not caused the landing, it was flying in a forbidden to fly area. Outside the airport circle the max flying height is 60 meters, your drone was at 18 meters.

But normally a drone is 'stopped' at the boundary of a forbidden area...so question is how it is possible to fly from outside into such area.
Yellow mark in picture = first descend warning position ; i 'see' it is in the airport circle zone.

at 14s in flight a warning > "Current RTH route will pass a no-fly zone. Pay attention to the aircraft's position to avoid RTH failure" ; RTH will not bring drone home as it will not enter a no fly zone and stop at the boundary of it (if i am correct....)

Mayby others have a better answer to your question
cheers
