What do you think happened?

Looks like they need improvement on the sensors or programming for active track. Has a Air 2S actually avoided any impact in real use? If so under what circumstances does it work, and which (tree branches does it not work).

What happened is not a surprise. "I crashed" several DJI drones. From sudden in-flight stop of the motors to flyaways, I had many negative surprises. And all ended up with statements from DJI like the ones you see in the video above. Although even in the video above you clearly see - the drone NEVER saw the tree.
When the consumer is always guilty, at some point new guys will appear. Happened with Nokia before, who would have thought this? Will happen now too...

If he played the whole video you would clearly see what happened, but he decides to go for clickbait...

So how the drone flight is up to the software and not the pilot.
I wonder who is the idiot than....

The drone crashed side on , not front on. It has no side sensors, you need to watch the full video not just the bit shown here, also if you read the manual in active track you should have RC in hand all the time.

The pilot, for doing this a second time above water after it already hit a tree in parallell tracking earlier

DJI, for enabling parallel tracking on a drone that can't detect objects to the sides
