Hey all,

I've just completed my setup with the newly purchased RSC2 Pro Kit.
I was planning on mounting the Raveneye unterneath the Gimbal as shown in all the tutorials but ran into an issue.

I'm using the Sony A6400 (403g) with the Sigma 56mm F1.4 lense (280g) which is a pretty light setup I guess.
Pointing the camera upward to balance the tilt axis I'm already almost at the bottom of the arm without the Raveneye.
Adding that part results in the camera falling forward as the lense plus the Raveneye are slightly heavier than the camera body (406g total).

Even with the tilt arm all the way at the bottom this remains the same.
I also have no way of fixing this by sliding the entire camera further back on the mounting plate as it will then fall backwards when it's supposed to remain horizontal.

So right now I'm stuck with mounting the Raveneye on top of the camera which is just ugly and blocks some of the controls.

I have two thoughts on how I could fix this but as I don't want to buy stuff blindly and send in back in case it doesn't work I'm happy for any advice here:

  • Putting additional weight on top of the camera with a 1/4" adapter and some weights. This wouldn't affect the balance when horizontal and help with balancing while pointing upward to counter the Raveneye weight in the front.
  • Putting additional weight to the front of the mounting plate. This would enable me to slide the entire plate further back without it toppling backwards. I'm uncertain tough if this will help balancing the camera pointing upward or if it will again topple foward with the extra weight there.

I've uploaded a video to show the issue better in case the description doesn't make sense :-P

Thanks in advance for any help!

In case anybody else runs into this issue and is looking for solutions: I've added a smallrig cage around the A6400 (which I intended to do anyway for more mounting options) which gave me enough weight in the rear. The balance is now perfect!

Hi Rasmus, I have the exact same issue and I’m using Sony 35mm f1.8 with a6400, can I just confirm that this is the cage to solve this issue? [SmallRig Cage for Sony A6100/A6300/A6400/A6500 Camera 2310]

Correct - I’m using the 2310 now and it’s perfectly balanced with my setup (I‘ve attached a picture).
I can’t say if this is also gonna work in your case as it is a different lense but I’d say it’s worth a shot
