My preference would be for DJI to release an updated Air Unit which had similar video to the new FPV drone. The Air Unit sends data to a 3rd party flight controller. This same data could be used to control a ground vehicle.
Submersibles would likely require a different system since it's really hard to get radio waves to pass through water. The frequencies used by the FPV drone wouldn't work well if the signal had to pass through water. If the submersible used a tethered buoy, the same system could probably be used.
While range underwater is an issue, so would be the range for a ground vehicle. The video signal of my FPV drone is pretty limited when I fly close to the ground. I've had to increase my elevation many times while flying for this reason. Of course ground vehicles would likely not travel nearly as fast or as far as an aircraft.
In case any of you are unaware, Ardupilot works with surface vehicles. There are lot of fun videos on YouTube showing surface vehicles following waypoint missions. Ardupilot could be used with a DJI Air Unit to make a remote controlled surface vehicle which would also be capable of following waypoint missions. |
