DJI is now selling the Inspire 1 body only.. for $2,099 -  http://store.dji.com/product/inspire-1-aircraft

Less the following;

• Camera/gimbal:  $550
• Controller :         $650
• Battery:             $150
• Power Adapter:   $50
•         Total of $1,400
  

So the cost of a new one is $2,900 - $1,400 (items not included in body alone) = $1,500 . Thats $600 dollars difference... Good deal??? I think not.  You would be better off just buying the full price, selling the Camera and Controller and keep the battery, charger and Inspire.  You would make a profit.

Or are my math skills in poor shape?

My take is that one who wants the whole thing would buy the $2900 package.

One who needs parts for the package they already own would benefit by buying the individual pieces needed.

Two completely different scenarios.

If only Phantom 3 would use same camera-gimbal as Inspire 1. Would be excellent to use Phantom body only as secondary backup

I understand only wanting the body. But if you buy the whole thing and sell off the two items I mention, you are actually getting the body for less than just buying it alone.
