After a bit of testing, I found you can switch paired controllers while flying, say from motion controller to normal controller, by

Pause the flight!

1 have the controller you want to switch to powered off
2 power off the controller in use (say motion controller)
3 power on the normal controller

Might be of some help to some

Why would you want to do that? Just land with the controller you have. Shutting off a controller will cause a loss of signal and trigger a return to home. This is a really, really, really, bad idea.

probably right, I know it would initiate a rth which can be cancelled, but I know some have struggled with landing with the MC

That just takes practice and following the on-screen messages.

Thats cool, do you keep goggles on throughout or remove when very close?

If you press and hold the red button the craft will land. If it stops before landing release and press and hold again until the craft has landed. I often let it land on grass and have to repeat this practice two oe three times before on the ground. Just be sure you're not landing in very long grass or uneven surface - it will cost you props if you do ...

I found landing with the MC difficult to do as well initially.  Directions where kinda confusing.  What I do now is fly to where I want to land, hit the pause button then hold the red button until it lands.

I take the goggles off for landing generally
