I'm embarrassed and mad at myself that I sometimes forget to remove the gimble cover.

So now, I do an outloud A-B-Checklist as I unfold the drone:

A- Arms (unfold its arms)
B- Blades - unfold the propellers
C- Camera - remove the gimble cover

I know it's dumb but I'm sharing in case anyone else is in the same boat :-)

LOL, not a bad idea.  

I'm still on the original mavic air, and I forgot to remove the gimbal guard one time. After that, I taped a piece of plastic to the gimbal guard that when cliped into place it covers the on/off button so its impossible to turn the drone on without removing the gimbal guard. (The on/off button on the original mavic air is on the bottom of the drone, so the plastic taped to the bottom of the gimbal guard fites over the on/off button.) Works great

I do some pro work, so these lists are expected by clients and insurance. Although I do use them flying for fun, Not all of it is needed when flying for fun. I do always use this exercise below before flying, it takes little time and becomes like second nature when flying.


Tip To Help Avoid compass interference and crash.


1/ Never calibrate Compass unless prompted to. Your compass will always prompt to calibrate if it needs it .

2/ start AC leave until you receive enough gps lock ,

3/ if you get Compass interference turn off AC and move to another location,
without interference.

4/ In bottom left hand corner on your map you will see small red/blue triangle, check to make sure that this triangle is pointing in the same direction (heading) as your AC, this will show good compass on the ground.

Raise AC to height of 8ft
Hover for 20 seconds
Fly forward 2ft
Backward 2ft
Left 2ft
Right 2ft
Up 2ft
Down 2ft
Yaw left
Yaw right
Each time returning to hover position
If you have a good horizontal each time, you will then know you have good GPS good IMU and good Compass, and your ready to fly.

This exercise takes less than 2 minutes and is worthwhile doing before every flight,

I have a label maker and have put on my remote:

1.  Phone Airplane Mode
2.  Takeoff Normal Mode
3.  Turn on phone charging (this is a big one because it always starts with phone charging off)

The worst is when you've expertly flown the drone perfectly to capture what you needed and THEN notice you didn't hit record. = / I've done that a couple of times.

Done that.  Now I carry 2 extra formatted in my bag just in case.

A2 and A2S have 8GB built-in so you can record something for at least a short time!
