To whom it may concern,
We start this post requesting a response from our Drone DJI Phantom 4 PRO manufacturer (DJI) regarding what happened.
On May 18, 2021, we were surveilling an area using the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Phantom 4 PRO SN 0AXDDF0A30787 and its capabilities. The conditions of flight were normal (no wind, clear sky, excellent visibility) and we planned for it to fly about 14 minutes in the maximum altitude of 400 ft according to the regulations of the area.
We were surprised at 9:43 minutes of the flight when the UAV made an abnormal noise in the sky and few seconds later, hit the ground, shattering most of its pieces. In the controller, the messages were switching between “Not Enough Force/ESC Error” and “Motor is Blocked.”. The designated pilot tried manually to prevent the collision; however, without any success. Explained by the occurrence of it all at once and the pattern of spiral downfall that did not allow any stability control. For more information https://app.airdata.com/share/RbXMPh.
With that said and by technical information given by the pilot and three coworkers that witnessed the downfall, our conjecture is that one or more propellers failed throughout the flight and the others could not sustain the UAV weight in the air.
Restating that the flight was autonomous, that the log presented technical issues and that was not possible to prevent the downfall manually corroborates that the UAV presented technical failure. Luckily, nobody was hurt and we retrieved the equipment and its shattered pieces. In case those are needed for a future evaluation, we would be comfortable sending them.
We have lost a valuable equipment that has helped us to perform topography jobs in the past and now we feel prejudice of not owning one anymore. Losing important contracts to competitors and having to spend money on renting alternative solutions. Therefore, with the evaluation of our complaint, we expect that the manufacturer will make up for some of the damages, such as, sending new piece of equipment or recuperating the money invested by our company.
