Amazing shot.    Can't get over how steep pitched the roofs are.  Guess that is for when you receive lots and lots of snow so that it just slides off.

That would be quite silly with <0,5 cm of snow per year
I'm not sure about the past, if they used this as a measure against snow.

I had to look it up.
But you are right, they make this kind of roof mainly because it was a. strong (less material needed to get the same strength) and b. because it is best for getting snow off the roof.
