The DJI manual states you must have your goggles connected to your phone and logged into the DJI Fly app or your range would be greatly reduced when flying.

I have never flown with the phone connected, and went 1 full mile today.  Was this restriction disabled on a recent firmware update?  Any other reason to have the phone connected, which is kind of obtrusive?

Do you mean page 3 in the manual? 50 m range? I guess they mean drones like the Air 2 or the Mini. I never tried flying them without the phone connected. It certainly doesn't apply to the FPV drone. Must have been a copy/paste mistake.

Yes, page 3.  I'm glad it's not required, could see ways my phone could get damaged being tied to my goggles.  Thanks!
