Got myself a Fathers day present that is hanging on the wall since 1h.
It doubles as a bass trap with rockwool insulation on the inside.
(I thickened the frame with some slats to make room for 5cm of that stuff)

PS, it measures 120 x 60 cm
Mavic Pro in portrait + AEB mode was my best friend.

Yes. Doing that right now.
It prevents the buildup of bass frequencies by absorbing a little of them.
Not like night and day, but good enough for me.
If I wanted a 'dead room' I would have to add a lot more of this, plus different kind of diffusors and anti reflecting surfaces.
  
You can go really wild with this kind of techniques 'sound proofing' your room.
But I'm just aiming for a good combination of improving the acoustics a little and adding something aesthetic.
Carpets on the ground help, plus a huge open shelving unit on the opposite wall to help prevent sound bouncing back and forward on the walls.

I'm using headphones a lot (other people live in this house too....) so the compromise is suiting me well.

Had the carpet man round yesterday to quote for a new carpet,  and prices have tripled here since we last bought this carpet,  even for the exact same one which they still sell.

Perhaps that was lost in transition. Here a carpet is fitted and would typically cover 100% of the floor.   A rug would be like a small carpet that covers a smaller section.
