Hello there crash1sttime. Thank you for reaching out and I am sorry for the trouble this has caused. The DJI Mini 2 has an Auto-Discharging Function to prevent swelling. The battery automatically discharges to approximately 96% of the battery level when it is idle for one day, and automatically discharges to approximately 72% of the battery level when it is idle for five days. It is normal to feel moderate heat being emitted from the battery during the discharging process. Thank you.

Did you watch the video Stephen? I clearly state that its been 7 days and they have only discharged to 96% and 92%.

Explain that.

I left my 3 batteries outside the dock for 6 days after the recent firmware update and they only discharged to 92 and 96% as well. It's clearly not working.

I was testing discharge a couple of weeks ago but stupidly never allowed for the fact that plugging in to check the battery (or plugging anything into hub) was resetting the discharge countdown timer everytime , Ooops !

I'm sure it was just me being dumb but thought id give it a mention here in case anyone else might be making same mistake

Cheers

Not sure that plugging/pressing does reset the count down, seems not even DJI know from what I’ve read

I have noticed the same actually, it only starts to drop to 72% after day 8 or 9. It does however get there... even before the update mine discharged to 72% but outside the hub... currently on day 5 with them inside hub... will take a look on day 8

Not sure that plugging/pressing does reset the count down, seems not even DJI know from what I’ve read

I've only tested with putting the battery in the drone and powering-up, this does interrupt the timer.
I'm not sure what happens if u plug into the hub with either a mains input or a usb output but i'd imagine that would interrupt it too ?

I've been testing my 3 batteries since the update and they seem to be working.
battery 1 in the hub was down to 97% after 27hrs
battery 2 out of the hub was at 98% after same amount of time
battery 3 is sitting in the hub right now untouched for 4days... i'll give it 10 days and check it, that should be around the 72%mark by then (9 days according to pg21 of the manual)
https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/ ... _User_Manual_EN.pdf

not sure it matters much but the production date on these batteries is 2020-11

EDIT: Seems they updated the manual 16th of June, it now says nine days indeed. (Manual version 1.4)
The manual in the picture is a bit older.

It's probably good to keep them out of the hub anyway, because if you take one out to fly I guess it wakes up and resets the "idle timer". Though I haven't tested it.

How do you check actually ?

You do know that every time you activate your charging hub or in the drone, the countdown is reset and starts from day one.

My batteries did discharge out of the charger. I am testing now if they will do it in the charger as well with the new firmware.  So, I hope I can check them in a couple of days.

I've experienced that with my batteries of my M2P too. Those batteries have a knob on top. If you press the knob to check the charge, the sequence is reset. As long as I pressed the knob every day, they kept the charge. When I left them alone, the charge went down.

I checked just for interest the level and they were all three at 92% after 8 days, they dropped 1% per day then even though I reset the process but yes previously out of the hub mine did discharge to 72% as well.

My results for auto discharge after 9 days waiting: no improvement after the update. Batteries do definately not discharge as described in the manual after 5 days !

Bat1 in charging hub = aprox. 93%
Bat2 not in charging hub = aprox. 93%
Bat3 not in charging but checked at day 7 = approx. 93%

I’ve had a chat with a chap who builds modded batteries, he used his specialist software tool to analyze the battery’s over time and it seems that they don’t discharge as DJI says, all the FW update seems to have done is change how the % is calculated.
Further he says that he can’t see any FW changing the situation as it would need resistors to discharge them.

Seems to me as a novice that DJI made a mistake with the batteries when producing them and now they are trying to fix the issue.

There is a circuit board in there that should be able to do that -

The chap you spoke to is wrong. These batteries have the capability to self-discharge.

Hi Switch639,

left my 3 batteries in the charger hub for 9 days. All 3 are now below 75% charge (3 leds).
Didn't push the knobs during that period.
Did the same test before the latests firmware and they stayed charge 100%.
So, ...  for my batteries it seems to be fixed.

Auto discharge worked for me! Have the batteries in the hub, have been pressing the button to check the levels at 24 hours, 5, 7 and 9 days. 24 hours, 5 and 7 days all four lights were solid but day 9 three lights were solid with the fourth blinking.

Also having them in the hub and pressing the button doesn’t reset the counter.
