I was flying around 50 metres above the lava vent, and through the gases and smoke, yet it returned without a scratch.... There were times over the crater when the signal broke up, but it quickly regained itself, and the gimbal played up briefly, so it was obviously feeling the heat, but nothing melted and no scorches....!
So, if you want to see directly into an actiive volcano's crater, take a look....
Cheers
Ian
Another incredible volcano video. Very daring to fly just over the crater. I guess you would have been prepared to lose the drone? At least we now know what it can handle. Great shots Ian.
Very brave and awesome video Ian, you did a hell of a lot better than this dude with a DJI fpv drone, I’d have felt sick losing it like that, video below for anyone interested in seeing what happens when it goes horribly wrong, the video isn’t very long.

He actually flew it into the lava on purpose; see his pinned comment.... I was happy to risk the M2P but didn't want to intentionally lose it.... Things look better in 4K rather than streamed 720p

Yeah, my missus ended up saying something about it to me, about how it looked as if he'd flown it in on purpose, still, braver than me, id fly around a volcano all day long, but you still have to be mindful of the immense heat it is churning out.
