I was thinking of buying a Mavic Air 2 or a Mini 2, but I've comments about how they'll be obsolete by 2023 due to the new classification rules in the EU. Will DJI reproduce existing models with the new classifications or are they going to remain as they are? Also, since I have to register both the Mini 2 and the Air 2, what's the difference if I just go for the Air 2 instead?

Hello there Alvara74. Good day and thank you for reaching out. As of the moment, we do not have any information and updates with DJI's future products and with DJI's future drones and DJI drone specifications. Kindly please stay tuned to the latest updates by subscribing to DJI official website at www.dji.com or following us on social media ( Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DJI , Twitter: https://twitter.com/djiglobal , YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/djiinnovations ). Thank you.

Currently, drones must be EC certified by 2023 at the latest. Otherwise you can only use them to a limited extent.
The DJI Mini2 is not EC certified either, but due to its weight of less than 250g it falls out of the way, so to speak, because the restrictions for this class already exist and are unlikely to change.

of course everything can still change ...

I'm mostly gonna be using my drone in a foreign country outside the EU when I go on holidays

@alvara74   I can't tell you that - you have to familiarize yourself with the laws in the country in which you want to use the drone.

This is exactly why I chose the M2.
Plus it can fly in places 250+ drones are not allowed!

PS, my suggestion is to NOT focus on all the bells and whistles other drones will give you.
The M2 is a very capable flying camera.
And a great choice to start your droning journey.

I've already had some toy drones before, but I kinda want a drone with good low light performance without much cost

Which countries are you interested in as most require you to take a local test.

Everyone here has their own preference, which is why they have just decided in favor of the M2 or (also not) - whether the M2 is exactly right for you or the Air2 can only be decided by you!
Those who want to fly in the EU will certainly have different decision criteria than those who fly in countries that do not know such laws / regulations.
In every country there should be a flight control or an association for model airplanes - they should know what is important ...

Since I fly manually most of the time, I don't care too much about the features.
(some are important, but most is marketing for me)

You only get that with a 1"sensor. (at the current DJI range)
Note that flying in low light is not always allowed (not sure about UK) so it is not too important for me (we can't fly at night)

I would turn that off immediately.
It makes the drone more unstable.

Your eyes are the best measure to prevent you from flying against something.
Flying on sensors is a recipe for disaster.

I personally would advice to get a M2.
It might be the only legacy drone that you can fly almost everywhere.
The M3 will probably be CE marked and (from what I understand) that means that it is more limited in the UK.
And even if that is not the case, you can get experience now with a M2 and learn the fundamentals of creating footage with a drone. Stepping up only when you are ready for it.

I think you need to have some blinking lights on the drone that can make it visible to you while mid flight in night

I still don't get what a legacy drone is and why the Mini 3 would be more limited than a Mini 2 (if its CE marked)

The main reason I'm considering the Air 2 is because I have £600 pounds worth of Amazon gift card I got from schools as rewards from competitions etc, so I just have to pay £169 for it
