I have an opportunity to visit Italy this fall, and am interested in capturing some aerial images, if the process is not too cumbersome.  My drone is a Mavic Air 2, so ~570g.

My question is this: what is the process for legally flying a drone for recreational purposes in Italy? I have a US FAA Part 107 certificate, could that be counted as a certification in Italy (if required)?

I am not willing to pay a lot or to gain a certification, my visit will be only about 3 days.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi there. Hope that our fellow DJI Pilots from Italy can provide you the best recommendation on flying in the said area. In addition, you may try to coordinate with the local authorities on the said area for you to have the list of laws available to fly a consumer drone. Thank you for your valued support!

I'm in Italy on vacation right now, and so far this is what I've discovered you need to legally fly your DJI Mavic Air 2 (same as my drone) in Italy:

1. Register yourself and your on the d-flight website (~€20) https://www.d-flight.it/web-app/
2. Get a UAS A1-A3 pilot license (€31) https://www.enac.gov.it/sicurezza-aerea/droni/come-si-diventa-pilota-uas-drone-open-a1a3
3. Buy insurance for your drone (1 year ~ €30)

I'm in the processing of doing all of this, as I'll be here two weeks. It seems pretty quick and I hope to be flying by tomorrow.

Wow, this is very helpful, thank you. Not sure if the "hoops" are worth it for ~3 days' visit, I may just try to be content with a gimbaled GoPro.

Thanks again,

Bob
