Cracken Edge is a ridge of Sandstone grit, quarried extensively in the 18th and 19th Centuries for roofing slates.
Much of this was surface quarrying, which you can see here. Although some mine shafts were dug too.
The area is popular with walkers and climbers.
The Mavic Mini 1 coped quite well with the wind sheer across the ridge, but when sent a little further away
I had to give it full throttle to make just 3Km/h against the headwind to get back to the Homepoint.
Plenty of battery in reserve to ensure this didn't present a problem.

I have a big dish filled with pieces of stone from places Ive visited,  including bits like castle walls.   My biggest mistake was not doing better labels for them.

Thanks Depp. A lot of the discarded stone was used to build corridors out to the main pathways, and the stonemasons did build shelters for themselves here and there.  I'll pick out a couple on my next edit.

The flight back had enough margin of battery. I'd flown down the lee side of the hill to get shots of the village below - protected from the wind. My standard practice is to hit RTH to bring the drone back, rather than steering it myself.  So it rose from its distant location to 50m above the homepoint - lifting into the path of the wind and cutting forward speed to 3Km/hr.  When I noticed its slow progress i lowered it gradually to about 3 metres height relative to the homepoint (where I was sat) It gradually picked up some speed and stopped overhead. I had to move so it didn't land on my head
