For takeoffs I just grasp it at the bottom with my thumb and first three fingers then startup the motors, push up on the stick and let go as it winds up (after getting RTH and checking the location and compass heading on the map). I seldom use auto takeoff (or landing for that matter). When landing I just hold out a flat palm underneath and the push the throttle stick down. But as you said if it's windy be careful. For a lanyard mount there are many available at www.thingiverse.com if you have access to a 3D printer. Not to mention quite a few other accessories for the Mini 2.

I didn’t expect the wind today to give this trouble….
All was okay and quiet until I landed her…. Damn….
You should record how youre doing it...
I have grabbed mine in 25mph gust with no issues, I think your issue is you are still wary of it and even more so now that its bit you a few times.
Bring it down to hand reach height and hold it there, now move your hand underneath and gently move upwards so that the drone will rise, once it stops rising, open your hand into a pincer grip, then just pull down on the left stick, don't panic, it will gently come down into your grip, at that point you can then grip tight and keep your finger on the stick fully down, no sudden moves, just hold that reach and wait until the ac motors stop, if it screeches it just means you're not fully down but your also slightly to the left or right, again, dont panic, let it screech, just keep the stick down, dont move till the motors stop.
If you are not comfortable as it's coming down during the actual landing part, just push the left stick back up again, it will rise, then start again.
As for the silicone cover, I'm wondering if it will pull it (stretch it) if you let go, silicon ain't that rigid.
There really is no need for those legs, one you've built up your confidence you will bin them.
Again, with this video, watch how he does it, goto 2:23...

perhaps I was too rough on the controls, causing the footage to be "wild".
It seemed to me that the gimbal simulated the action on turning, not on yaw.
Yaw IS turning...around the vertical axis. Roll is going sideways or rotating around the horizontal/longitudinal axis. I remember that the Mini 2 is different from the MA2 in the FPV effect. One is roll and the other is yaw.

Yeah, the landing practice before yesterday all went smooth.
Yesterday right when it touched down on my hand, a windblast blew it a little off and I think a reflex tried to grab it anyway.
Should have done a retry ... yep!
lessons learned (again, not many fingers left ;)
As for the cover, well we will see.
It was not like very costly or so.
If it works well, great, otherwise it will be sold again.
Same goes for the legs. I'll just see how that works or not and go from there.
a good landing pad it better I think and is on the wishlist and the one mentioned before looks good to me
