I have shared 950 of my travel photos on Google Maps.  I am forturnate to have traveled around the world a number of times.  The last two times with at least two DJI drones.  Google Maps loves 360° panoramas which drones do a wonderful and easy way of creating.
Below is an image that shows locations of my posts.

Recently I have shot many indoor 360°s with my Mavic Air 2.  I was astonished that a photo uploaded Aug 8 received half a million views by Sep 20.  

Frankly I cannot explain why as it has outperformed all of my other uploads.

Congrats on all your travels.  I have quite a few more travels myself, many courtesy of the Navy.  Unfortunately, drones didn't exist during most of my Navy travels.  

That water park 360 is fantastic.

Thanks.  What I have found out is the GM takes an image from a place in an area and then uses it to represent the area.  The waterpark is located in the city of Edmonton.  If you search for "Edmonton Alberta" in GM on a phone it loads an overview map of the city and in the lower left corner an image.  Right now that will be my waterpark image.  If GM keeps it there for another two months the image will reach a million views.

Thanks DowntownRDB.  I did most of my traveling for work in the mining industry with no drone but always a camera.  Made a couple of big trips since retirement bringing drones along.

It is just random, I think. I've posted shots which have seen almost 250,000 views and others which I really rated myself don't seem to do as well.

I have one from inside an Italian restaurant that seats about 20 people with 50'000 views.

Google maps loves 360s.  If you search "Big Island, Hawaii" in google maps on a phone the image in the lower left turns out to be one of mine. 430,000 view todate.  By the way its a shot of the best beach on the Big Island.

I took the photo in 2006 - originally for Geograph.org - but submitted it to Google Maps about two years ago
