Hi I have an Mavic Pro and for a few years I have problems with my RTH.
He goes to the good hight, ans bearing and start to fly back.
After 50 feet he stops. Then he start fly again for another 50 feets and he stops again and so on.
I have seen 2 different kind of solutions.
1. I have a few upgrade to much and have te downgrade a few.
2. My Mavic start flying and then see's a obstruction who isn't there and stops.
I had 2 years ago contact with the DJI support but they told me to calibrate mij Mavic. Nothing helps.
I've calibrate everything that is to calibrate but nothing works.
Furter he is flying very good, specialy from my sailboot to make pictures, and go back easily.
Can somobody tell me what is the problem?
Does somebody have the same problems?

Hi Speedjo,

best advice/help is to upload a flightlog in wich this issue occurs.
use > https://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/

Post the uploaded link on here, or just put a cloudlink to the log on here

2. My Mavic start flying and then see's a obstruction who isn't there and stops.
The obstacle avoidance can be fooled by a low, bright sun and think that's an obstacle to avoid.
If the RTH path is toward the sun, this can happen on RTH.

I had 2 years ago contact with the DJI support but they told me to calibrate mij Mavic. Nothing helps.
I've calibrate everything that is to calibrate but nothing works.

DJI help people aren't much help.
Nothing that you could recalibrate that would make any difference.
Turning off the obstacle avoidance would fix the issue or making sure the RTH path doesn't fly towards the sun.

Thank you very much.
I have the logfile where he is flying RTH wrong.
I post it in the here. You can see everything is going alright when starting the RTH.
But when he says RTH:Cruise after 30 Yards he is saying: RTH: backing to avoid obstacle.
The speed is going to zero until the RTH: Is coming again and everthing is repeating.
Is this error known on this forum and is there a solution for it?

HI,

See my chart of your data.

5x braking  ** for obstacle in RTH mode, see rapid pitch up, speed drop and ofcourse climbing to get over that 'obstacle'.....
** msg =  RTH: Braking to avoid obstacle.
Heading approx 345 at  time local time 14.27....craft flying not direct into sun direction but sun incoming from the left.

Nothing you can do about, only disable the OA. (or do nor fly into the sun, wich is hard to do in a RTH  ;-) )
I normallly disbable the OA when flying at height for video with no obstacles in the area, so my video is not ruined by speed dropping to zero!

Good to see the height steps in GE.

HI,

See my chart of your data.

Wow that is nice looking, thans JJB*.
I saw the braking to avoidence to.
He never dit this in the past.
Is it possible that this is a collateral dammage by an update.
I heard it a few time. But I dont know how many downgrades I have to do.
I wil test everything when the weather is better and I let You know how it went.
Thank you very much for helping. Also all others who has reply to my threat.

Hi,

My pleasure.  btw, changed the large chart, now your RTH home and max height line are correct.
Don`t think it has someting to do with an update.
Next few days good weather in our country!
Happy many landings,
cheers

Hi JJB*,
I have tested it yesterday
When I fly with RTH OA in the Visual Navigation Setting disabled, nothing has changed and the Mavic is going wrong in RTH
When I disable RTH Obstical detection in the advanced section the mavic is flying RTH as it should be.
He is coming back in 1 track without stopping. In the logfiles everything is ok.
So when I enable the OA and disable the Obstacle Detection everything is alright. The drone only is not ascending bij obstacles. Further testing says that the drone is still stopping for real obstacles.

Can you tell me where the different sensors are locating? Is it a possibilty that a sensor has dirt or something?

Thanks in advanced
Sorry for my bad English, haha

Hi,

I don`t have a Mavic Pro myself, and the manual cannot be found on the web. (did not search too long ...)

Guess your answer can be found in your manual, sensor in the front ofcourse as they look forward.

Hi Speedjo

I get these message sometimes both on my Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro.
In my case it's always because of sunlight.
To test this don't land it but fly it maby 100m out over the homepoint and then hit go home.
If it does the same it's sensor problem if not it's most likely light.
This is how I have the settings.
