You have to love those Apple events.  Seems Apple is not facing the massive chip shortages that other electronics manufacturers are seeing.

I love the new way they do them in a virtual event.  Not all companies are having an issue.  Tesla for example don’t.  The big problem is the car manufacturers cancelled orders at the start of the pandemic so the chip companies retooled for other processors and it’s slow for them to change back again.

There’s a rumour the Eu version will come with a different battery like the mini2 in Japanese to get under 200grams.  Time will tell though.

It also seems like the demand for chips has grown exponentially over the years.

I've read how Samsung is planning on building another chip manufacturing plant in the US.  Maybe that will help with production a bit.

I remember seeing where TSMC was planning a new plant for Japan followed by one in Arizona.  Not sure what time line they had in mind for Arizona.

After a little Googling I see where it is scheduled to be completed in 2024.  Article said that TSMC is planning to build up to 6 plants over the next 10-15 years at the Arizona site.

Based on an article I read recently.

Water is a key element in semiconductor manufacturing.   Considering Arizona received just 13.6 inches of rainfall on average over a 30 year period making it the fourth driest state in the US.  Based on the huge amount of start-up water needed to establish a semiconductor plant it may not have been the wisest choice TSMC made in choosing a location.  

The article never mentioned the amount of gallons required for start up.

That would be many tankers of water and trucks to haul it but if money wasn't a consideration it could be done that way.
