DJI Osmo Action 2 vs Osmo Action 1

Hello there DAFlys. Good day and thank you for sharing this interesting video you have came upon. In addition I will post a DJI link ( https://www.dji.com/products/com ... ndsite&from=nav ) where in can compare the specifications of the DJI Osmo Action to the DJI Action 2. Thank you.

As of now the Osmo Acton has the ability to use a external mic and USB power bank at the same time.  Still have not heard if that is possible with the new one.

Theres a power module that connects via magnets to it.

I personally prefer the 1

Hi yes, but I mean can I use a external Mic and plug it into a USB Anker or some other brand power bank.
This would be so you could have power all day for like on a kayak,  you don't want to be messing with batteries while fishing :-)

Agreed. In that use case the older is better.

it could have with some minor tweaks,
for instance including a 3.5mm mic jack in the power and screen modules.
making the base camera a bit bigger so it could have a sdcard and usb C port.

Sadly designed for a different use case  with a size and weight in mind.

Very informative video you found DA.  I have the OA and the more I see about the OA2 is causing me to climb the fence. The most action either will see if strapped to a RC car & actually I have to small cameras that work good for that but neither does any stablization at all. A lot of my stuff is shot from a tripod or a selfie stick attached to the controller. The other thing is winter is knocking on the door and the battery module one won't be out for another month for whatever reason.

Not really. Guess what you made market is and what they want and make a product for them.  If 2 people that want to use it for some obscure who cares it’s not for them.

That’s very true.  I’m sure they will blame the supply shortage.

Not just them - although I have yet to explore this aspect with the Action 2, I found that the rival Go 2 device could be attached so quickly and in so many ways and places that it changed my style of location videos.  For instance, there's the classic shot which shows a vlogger walking towards the camera and then past it into the distance.  You have two choices usually for that shot - put the camera on the ground or hump a tripod around.  With these tiny cameras you can hang them from their lanyard from a branch, magnetically attach them to a signpost pole, or use some sticky putty like BlueTak to attach them to any suitable surface that's nearby.  The pole option was a good one - I'm fairly tall so I used to attach my Go 2 as high as I could reach which meant a higher than tripod viewpoint, and it also meant a kid couldn't grab it and run while I was walking away!

As for the video in this thread - I see almost no relation between the A1 and A2 - it's certainly not a good idea to think of it as an upgrade. It's a different tool for a different job.  Sure, you can compare them but avoid the 'upgrade' mindset.

I heard that too, but what I have seen they used lower resolutions / framerates (at least on their video's)

The odd thing is I saw where the battery module as a stand alone would be available on Nov 2nd. I think it's a marketing thing to get people to buy the more expensive dual screen model.

I am sticking with my Action 1.  I am not a fan of the fact that the Action 2 forces me to use the power module if I want to have more space to record videos, which then means if I want to take it underwater I have to buy an underwater  housing.  With my Action 1 I can just jump into the ocean with it and not have to worry about needing a waterproof case.

This is the wrong question. It is another class of actioncam with some adventages, but many drawbacks compared with the Osmo Action. It is no replacement for the Osmo Action at all. If DJI stops the production of the Osmo Action, they will lose most of their actioncam custormers, like me...

I thought they'd already dropped it from the line up.

Sorry to say, but I stick to my old OA for now.
I was hyped up when A2 was released, but after reading/watching all the non paid reviews, made me thinking that A2 is not for me at this point.
Yeah I know all the creativity shots I could get, but with only about 20 min recording and battery time + need to charge up after + price.

I still have a hope for another actioncam from DJI to compete with gopro 10, and I think they will release one but not until 1 year after this (hope for earlier).
I don't see A2 as a actioncam, since you can't to much action before you have to charge it and empty the internal memory.
Just imagine you going down a slalom slope, it takes around 10 minutes or more, and you have to charge it between every time.

Thanks for the share DAFlys. I have both the osmo action and the action 2. It will be situational for me as to which I use where though as both have their shining moments in my opinion. The osmo action has become quite useful and now that I have the action 2, I can see the potential with it as well. I will be using both. I can see the actual potential of using both in the same shoot also, again just depending on the circumstances.

I think in my use case (on a Kayak fishing) the Horizon leveling would be super nice to have.   My videos with the Osmo action 1 are all over the place because the kayak does sit at a angle a lot of the time.
With the OSMO Action 1 I record in 1080P all day with a 256gb sdcard so I don't miss anything and power it via a Anker USB power bank.  


If the Action 2 can be powered all day with a external mic like the OSMO Action 1 at some point and if the upcoming remote can control loop recording I might actually be able to use 4k instead of 1080p.

I am assuming the Action 2 has loop recording where I can save of the current loop like when a fish is caught etc.
