I know this setting isn't available in Europe/UK.
But exactly how is this achieved? If I buy the camera in Europe but then I later use it in a different continent, will the setting be available there?
Does it depend on the current location or the activation region or?

Can't say for sure but my guess would be the country where it was registered. Think that would be a DJI question

That is a good question. This is the first DJI camera that I know of this has came up for I know the drones go by where you are when you’re taking your flight but I’m not too sure about just a camera.

As a real-world example, yesterday I was in Florida. I had the 'high' setting toggled. Last night I flew back to Europe. Just now I powered on the Action 2, and the high setting was still available just fine.

However, the moment I opened up the DJI Mimo app and it connected to the camera, the DJI Mimo app informed me it needed to do a configuration update on the Action 2, and then restart it (virtually identical to what it does for drones when changing countries, if you're familiar with that). Upon the restart, the 'High' option was greyed out, and I was forced back to standard.

Great info.  Personally I haven't used the high setting yet (here in Australia) because I've not needed to, and when provoked to overheat by non-typical use indoors, it does get so hot even at that setting that instinct tells me not to allow it to get even hotter, for its own good and also to preserve the skin on my fingers!

Could somebody please confirm this? It could have been a coincidence.
When I bought the camera, I could use the high temperature mode in the EU for a few days, before it got disabled by the Mimo App.
I'm trying to get it unlocked with simulated GPS positions an VPN connections to locations outside the EU, but no luck so far.

When I first got the camera, in the UK, the high temp setting was available. It got greyed out a few days later. In theory then, "someone" could turn on a VPN set to USA on their smartphone, then connect to their camera via Mimo, which will re-set the camera and allow the camera to use high-temp setting again. And it will stay that way until you re-connect to Mimo again.

That's useful to know.

I just bought the action 2 and I’m based in the uk. Even at 4k30 it overheated after 5 mins. I tried using a vpn to USA but the camera doesn’t let me select the higher temp mode. Anyone had any luck? On the location services setting on my iPhone the DJI link app isn’t using my phone’s location so not sure how it is working out where it is.
I’ve got the magnetic case on order so I’ll see if that improves it.

Does crackconfig file also work with Action 2? I thought it was good from Action 3 onwards. OK, I'll try to get both camera batteries discharged without the sd card

I put the file in the root of the SD card, but when I go to the high temperature settings it is disabled

You can enable high Tempurature mode by using an app called "Fake GPS Location" which is a free app in the Google Play Store.  I've not found a similar app in the Apple App Store so this only works on Android phones.  All you need to do is start the Fake GPS app, set a locaton outside of the UK/EU, I set a location in New York.  Start the DJI Mimo app and connect to your Action 2 Camera.  This will fool your camera that it's outside the UK/EU and you should then be able to enable the High Temp setting, then disconnect from the DJI Mimi app.  This setting will remain in the camera and can switch modes back and forth as long as you don't go into the DJI Mimo App using a UK/EU location.  If you do, you can use the Fake GPS app again to re-enable it again.
