Oh. We’d say.   Arhhh….  Or phew.

ph = f in dutch.
e = ie in dutch.

And we add a 'j' because of the j that is in there (when you say it)

So Fjieuw = Phew

I discovered many odd differences with Germans when I worked closely with them for a number of years.  Right down to how they tip.

My most memorable experience in Germany was in cologne.  In a new office building in a little kitchen waiting for coffee to be made. My colleague out of the blue started to tell me about his grand father and what he did in ww2.   We’ve always been told not to mention the war with Germans.

It was very unexpected.   But As someone thats interested by the WW's it was interesting to hear the German side of the story.

I went to Auschwitz in 2019 and that was fascinating,   but very disturbing too.
