Thanks DJI, for not letting us use the 4G LTE dongel in the EU.

Did you know that in the EU there are also people that have the papers to fly up to 25KG?!, not all of us have only A1-A2 or A3 papers, there are a lot of people that have higher papers and can fly more KG!

Telliing me that it will go over 900Gramm with the 4G dongel is not a good reason to not let us use it.

thanks

Indeed quite peculiar. There are companies with LUC or other specific class permissions or simply exceptions of the rules for specific purpose. The future of drone business is not only consumer based. It is very much driven by what pro companies do. The same counts for other limitations such as external antenna connectors, etc... Higher classes, BVLOS... There is a permission for this within EU.
Does DJI plan to listen to the EU pro market in these points?

with specific category yes, you can fly bvlos and up to 25kg, also have access to nfz zones etc.
but you're not been entirely cut off over 900g for general use in open category, if there's no other local restrictions being there (here in slovenia, were are screwed with max 500g mass in rural areas in open category, so..).
a2 category (which allows crafts within over 900g to 4kg) is still there to use, if possible (yes, with more restriczions, but still).

I thought the 4g dongle was for the smart controller not the drone?

No it’s not on the remote, it’s on the drone as a ad-on
4G LTE Dongle with a frame to put it on top.

Exactly, we can fly up to 25KG we have the specific papers, so DJI where is the 4G LTE dongle for the EU!?

Interesting. I posted a request last night for DJI to provide us with more information.

It looks like 2 dongles. One for the Drone and one for the Controller.

Definitely One dongle for sure that goes on the aircraft, but hoping its built into the remote.

I just looked up the details on the remote. No SIM slot. But it may have a virtual SIM? Like an iPhone?

Also the picture of the Dongle has now been removed from the AU store site.

Maybe its one for the drone and connect to your mobile via Wi-Fi hotspot.

Yes that's what I thought might be the case. But after reviewing the new controller it makes you think that there is also one for that.

Yes. It seems all the accessories are missing for it.  I assume they don’t want to affect it MTOM in Europe.

Thanks that was an interesting article. Pity I did not capture a screen grab before DJI removed it from the website.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was only ever available in Asia as in the UK its still a requirement to put cell phones in flight mode while flying. Nothing to do with aircraft as such, more of a communications issue in that the way a cell network works is that the antennas are angled down to limit their range, thus creating a 'cell'. Operating at altitude causes the phone to hit more than one cell at once potentially disrupting the network. This was in the original legislation, The Wireless Telegraph Act, states that cellular devices have to be disabled in flight.

At 400' I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue, we have hills higher than that, but, it may not be possible to obtain certification in the UK as the device is designed to be operated on an aircraft. As large proportion of EU legislation is based on UK legislation this may be part of the issue.

I have had 2 of them for a while now ( UK ) and one works perfect for the RC Pro giving 24/7 internet 4G coverage for maps etc, the other one on the Mavic 3 although it shows the green light for connection, does not show up in the DJI Fly app ( Enhanced Transmission Tab ) to enable 4g control, feel very let down by DJI regarding this, such a capable drone let down by marketing constraints, roll on a non Chinese Drone manufacturer who can supply such a product with same specs without all the shackles, I'd buy right away.
