Just curious, should I be using H.264 or H.265 when I’m recording? I’ve a modern computer which can process h.265 no problem but I’ve seen videos on YouTube which show people recording in h.264 on the new Mavic 3. Also in the specs on DJI’s website it doesn’t show that my Samsung Evo Plus micro sd as compatible with h.264 high bitrate but yet it shows it under h.265. Why would that be????

H265 is more compressed so you can get more quality in a smaller file size.   H264 generally is more compatible.   If you can process it Id film h265,   its the future.

H265 have more quality in small details. Don't look at that 200mbps of H264, just record from a fixed point same scene with H264 and H265 and check the artifacts and form...you will see details in H265 that appears better than H264.
I have posted in Air 2 section i believe a comparison of H264 vs H265 quality and was very visible at a 4x zoom that H264 lost details, while H265 retained them well.
Cheers.

Overall, MAVIC 3 is good (I have all DJI drones since 2016 except the tiny ones) but spent several hours today trying to get H.264 and D-LOG to work to produce ANY readable file. NO LUCK!!  Had to use H.265 to get D-LOG formatted files...not sure if this is known bug or what...downloaded firmware and refreshed but to no avail.  I am using the MAVIC 3 CINE by the way...  And using the fancy PRO controller for this Mavic.

if your hardware can handle H.265, by all means, use it, as it produces smaller and, allegedly, better quality media. Most of the video sharing sites (e.g. YouTube) can handle this format, and they typically re-render it anyway, so it's not your concern,
And if not, H2.64 is totally fine as well, just slightly older, larger, yet, as many already said, more compatible with older software/hardware.

I can also import only H.265 files with d-log profile in the free version of DaVinci Resolve 17. And only with the extension .mov. If the files  is H.264 or mp4, DaVinci Resolve doesn't see them. I do not know what the reason is.
If anyone shares useful information I would be grateful.

I’m using a Mac and when recording in 5k my Mac won’t play it. If I’m recording in h.265 in 5k my Mac will play them. Same for dlog. I suggest using h.265 but again as others suggested it’s your preference and what your computer can handle

I don't know what platform you are running on (Mac/Win?) but if there are such limitations it is probably because it is free. My paid version (Win) has no such limitations.

Thanks for the reply!  This is exactly the confirmation I needed, because I wanted to know that it would work before I spent 300 USD. I'm on Windows too.
Once again, thank you!

What hardware / software do you need. How fast and big a PC do you need
