We had some good snow a fews years back at the end of November,  I had a ranger at the time and made a right ***** of myself,   got fed up waiting and I thought Id nip over the pavement to turn left,  front end went up fine but the back just slid out out on me.

Now that's funny to look back on but definitely not funny at the time.  I drove in a lot of ice and snow when stationed just north of Chicago.  Never got used to the snow piles or "black ice" as they called it.

I pride myself for snow driving.  So many of my old colleagues would be like working from home due to the snow. Can’t get out.  And I’d be in the office extra early saying. Oh I passed your place earlier and didn’t have a problem.

Usually on a conference call,   but I really hate how people use the snow as an excuse.  especially when we really dont get much here.

When I was stationed just north of Chicago there were many days when they would announce "base is closed...stay home".  I didn't mind staying off the roads one little bit.

Its very rare that we get snow that bad here,  probably once every 25 years or so.

So it sounds more like you get a thorough dusting.  Snow used to pile up deep at that base.  Sometimes they had to use front end loaders and take it over and dump it into the lake.

The last bad snow I remember was in the 80's.   The roads were properly blocked and the supermarkets had to ration food.   But they were pretty useless at it as you could only buy say one loaf of bread,  but you go out go back in and use a different checkout and bing bong two loafs and repeat for the 14 tills.

What a coincidence as that heavy snow I was referring to was in the winter of 1986.

I will ask some oldie what the year was,  I dont quite recall.   We had a hurricane in 87 that I do recall,   it ripped the conservatory off the house.

Weather wise 86-88 seemed to be pretty bad years.

Yes.  But it also meant deliveries couldn’t get to the supermarkets.
