Am I the only one who sees that the video from the m3 is strobi, studder? I saw it in many YouTube videos and also its the same with my unit.
I don't think it's a problem with shutter speed. I always keep it double of the fps.
I saw it in before I bought it. You can see in the opening,  the shots are not smooth and in some its more noticeable.
Tell me I'm not hallucinating.
Someone on fb wrote -

Yeah it’s there in many of the videos I have seen from the Mavic 3. Looks like bad scaling with temporal alias. Maybe it’s got something to do with scaling down from full sensor to 5K or the 70% cropped 4k-120 setting.  Basically all finer details appear to flicker slightly with slow movement. Not sure why.

This is a sample of a footage I shot yesterday. You can notice the jitter in the crossroad while the drone fly to the right. Its not smooth. To unexperienced eye, it could seem ok, but I believe this is not good enough for professional use especially its more noticeable in some scenarios . I think its worse while flying slow.

... Some pro reviewers said the Mavic 3 applies a fairly aggressive sharpening-filter to all video so I am guessing that might cause it.

I agree, The majority of the video I have taken the time to look at has had some shuddering and some rolling moire, and even some weird artifacting. The only ones that look great are the pro-res captures with who knows how much processing.
There are only a few video examples that I have seen that were smooth and worth all the hype.
But, we have to keep in mind that the Mavic 3 is a work in progress and will improve??

The video I attached was made on the cine version and it's still has that problem.

I think you will find similar on 90% of YT videos, its more to do with YT than your M3.

Although you are correct about the YT compression, etc, I was curious so I spent the time to download and view those few SOC images and videos that were posted by one of the "influencers/early reviewers" ( Billy Kyle I think? ) and they were rough.
But I expect better as they refine the cameras.

I have the drone for 3 days now and I have checked the raw footage, Unfortunately the jittery exists. Maybe it become worse on yt but the problem does exist. On the other hand, you can find footages from drones on yt and they are smoth.

You might have a problem. Check SD card Check props, Ive just got mine and weather is pretty bad here to test, but I will soon and report if there is a problem. Most videos I’ve seen on you tube are edited so its not really going to show on YT. Can you post this footage and maybe you’ll get some opinions.

Most dji drones and cameras improve greatly over time, but if the footage is unusable then its a case for returning the drone.

I have recorded it to the internal storage to eliminate any variable that could cause the issue.
Where do you want me to upload the footage to?

From you have seen till now, you can see the jitter but most people won't notice it to be able to say it's unusable..

I’d say just upload small clip that shows it on this thread, you should be able to embed in opening post.

I guess I noticed that, too.

This is probably the most boring and ugly footage, but sometimes that's work...

Anyways: To me, the trees almost felt painful to watch because of this jittering.
But I wasn't sure whether or not it was just me or the conditions or whatever

Should have been 1/100s by 50FPS - unless I didn't notice how the Fly App reset something after restarting (like it does with ISO)

Man.. This is unusable.
I'm happy I'm not the only one who sees this issue..
Dji should address this issue as it harms the most important thing of the drone and that is the video quality

I see it on the roundabout, it’s definitely not in the trees, the trees are a bit mush but thats down to a lower 720p standard on this foru., I’m just wondering is it the light or you tube artifact, I have watched both cine and standard footage on YT and most are fine in fact I have seen some really great stuff played in 4k and 5k which I can view .

So I believe it might be best to do some further testing at night and day using correct shutter if you have movement in your footage, otherwise if there is no movement then you can use whatever shutter you need or choose.

If it still continues then you should contact support. But seriously from what I see so far this is not inherent, but having said that bugs being fixed is a very regular occurrence with dji cameras on drones and handheld .

I have not experienced this stuttering on my drone. I've had potential issues with purple and blue color shifts, but the motion has been beautifully smooth for me, even in the wind. I'm not flying at night though.

I have experienced the same issue, after reading a bunch of articles and change settings in my new drone even buying an expensive SD card the video is not smooth, I have played it in different computers since I read that one of the problem could be your pc but the result is the same, an annoying footage.

I already contacted DJI support and after 1 hour their final answer was that they will send my issue to a specialist who will contact me (that was 3 days ago)

But all the footages in YT look amazing and smooth so I don’t know if the solutions is return the drone.

Not all the footage on yt looks good. Many of the videos has noticeable strobe. You can see it the example I posted.
I think it's more noticeable when flying slow.
Did you record only with h.265 or tried h.264 as well?

Thanks for checking the footage. I saw many examples on yt that has strobe in movement, and some luck of it.
I don't think it's a problem with my unit because it's a wide spread issue.
I'm going to try and record with h.264 to see if the problem is the hevc compression.

To my opinion, strobe is one of the worst looking thing in video.

Maybe the processing in the M3 needs further enhancements.
It happened before with other drones. Apparently DJI is not a videocamera maker by default.

I can see it, but this guy I know he’s a film maker , I would be surprised looking at his own footage he would have picked this up. He has clearly edited it but makes no mention. That’s why I’m wondering is this something to do with transferring footage to You tube. I know what I see in his video is  easily  fixed in FCP or LumaFusion.

Its strange that it can only be seen videoing with drone moving sideways. Could there be fine tuning needed on the Yaw of the craft. I do read Ian of London who has posted a video here saying sticks are very sensitive and he’s using standard Remote.

I should get out tomorrow or Saturday will test.

In some shots, particularly panning or side tracking shots, it looks like somewhere along the workflow every 6th frame is being dropped. (In YT you can skip single frames using comma and period keys)

I'm seeing larger shifts every 5th frame on Phillip's shots. I'm suspecting a 24/25/30 fps oddity in one of the codecs. Unfortunately viewing on YT I can't tell at what stage it's happening.

ETA: I just grabbed a clip from dronexl.co which is 60fps H265 and the panning part of the shot show absolutely no artifacts, so I'm tending to suspect something at the YT end of the chain. I guess we'll see more over time. We'll also tend to find people having issues with their computers not being able to reliably keep up with these bitrates when trying to process the footage. A technical Diderot Effect if you will.

I noticed this problem on the my first MAVIC 3 flight. He is there and annoying. It irritates me so much that I wondered what high quality video recording it makes sense to talk about. At the same time, no one raised the issue.  I'm a photographer, not a videographer. So I initially blamed my own incompetence. But the engineer in me was looking for the answer.
My first videos were shot at 25 fps, shutter speed 1/50s.
The first suspect was the memory card. So I decided to increase the FPS. At 60 FPS the video was no problem. Therefore, it was not a memory card. Moreover, we are not talking about insufficient performance of the drone processor.
I did a second test: I shot at different FPS settings, following the shutter speed rule. 30 fps was much, really much better than 25 fps. So I started shooting at 30 fps. And here I found part of the solution. The refresh rate on my computer monitor is 60 Hz.  I believe that FPS multiple of the monitor refresh rate minimizes the problem.
The effect of the Playback device: I watched a test clip on both my computers and my TV. There were only traces of strobing on my main computer.
Influence of the firmware: After the last update, I do not observe gating at 30 FPS.
The human factor: I came across a video on YouTube and there were the following statistics: 80% of people do not see strobing. Just a physiological feature.

In conclusion, I think DJI can make the video smoother. Nothing suggests a hardware problem. Until then, we can think more carefully about the settings we shoot and the way we shoot. These skills will always be useful to us.
