I noticed this problem on the my first MAVIC 3 flight. He is there and annoying. It irritates me so much that I wondered what high quality video recording it makes sense to talk about. At the same time, no one raised the issue. I'm a photographer, not a videographer. So I initially blamed my own incompetence. But the engineer in me was looking for the answer.
My first videos were shot at 25 fps, shutter speed 1/50s.
The first suspect was the memory card. So I decided to increase the FPS. At 60 FPS the video was no problem. Therefore, it was not a memory card. Moreover, we are not talking about insufficient performance of the drone processor.
I did a second test: I shot at different FPS settings, following the shutter speed rule. 30 fps was much, really much better than 25 fps. So I started shooting at 30 fps. And here I found part of the solution. The refresh rate on my computer monitor is 60 Hz. I believe that FPS multiple of the monitor refresh rate minimizes the problem.
The effect of the Playback device: I watched a test clip on both my computers and my TV. There were only traces of strobing on my main computer.
Influence of the firmware: After the last update, I do not observe gating at 30 FPS.
The human factor: I came across a video on YouTube and there were the following statistics: 80% of people do not see strobing. Just a physiological feature.
In conclusion, I think DJI can make the video smoother. Nothing suggests a hardware problem. Until then, we can think more carefully about the settings we shoot and the way we shoot. These skills will always be useful to us. |
