Here in France it is for free. In Germany as well and it takes only an hour. Really, this is not an issue unless you are under 16. Then you would have to be accompanied by someone older

I think you’re thinking of the wrong test.   The test that lets you bump a category is an extra test that’s usually supervised and costs some money.

I am talking about the A1/A3 test in the open category. It is for free and can be done online. In some countries the A2 test costs between 250 and 350 Euros and can also be done supervised (camera) online, for example already in Germany.

I found in an Austrian document  that EASA communicated to them that if there is no explicit mention of a MTOM the actual weight of the drone counts. In the case of the DJI mini 2 the only weight mentioned is 249g. In reverse this rather means that you are not allowed to add weight, so no propeller guards etc.

My fear is that DJI will just use this to sell another upgrade.

They won't go back and get their current models classified, instead they'll release something with essentially the same airframe and a few software tweaks and get that classified.

That way you'll have to upgrade to keep flying.

If they got classifications for their current drones they 'lose sales', in the eyes of a big corp like DJI. Their track record of abandoning firmware updates with bugs still outstanding as soon as a model is superceded is well known.

It's a fine commercial balance, but one that I would hope would cost them dearly in terms of brand loyalty. I'd love to see them show more aftercare for their customers as they make great hardware.

Since we know that they could have got classification for at least the Mavic 3 I think you’re right and they are boycotting for as long as possible to generate sales of classified drones in the future.

I find this very strange, since it should be about safety right?
As long as the total mass does not exceed 250g, I feel a lot safer than flying with my old Mavic Pro.
We will see how it will change and what it will mean for the countries.

Until now I have more or less flown by the rules. Sometimes I got too close to an object, but that was about it.
But when they are going to get even more strict, to the point where it is not about safety anymore, I'm not sure what I will do.
