Did 2 different range tests today. The first was to see how far i go before low battery kicked in and that was 10km. This was done with full throttle forward.

This test was done with almost half throttle forward to see how long I can fly forward till battery runs out. The sweet spot it seems to get good flying time is between 27kmh to 33kmh. I could have flown for longer is my stupid phone did not ring while flying LOL

Wow, 10km is amazing! Is that the RC Pro or the standard controller?

That serves you right for being too popular and everyone wants to call you ;-) And very brave to fly over water the whole time. Good analysis, dude. Can I send you some money to extend your Airdata account?

I kept as close as possible to the shoreline just in case. I am going to try again on the flight time when.i get another chance, I am sure I can hit the 40 minute mark or hopefully more.

That is quite a range!

The drone still had full signal most of the way, could have easily went further.

Awesome test. I was wondering how the M3 would go and what the optimum speed seems to be. So for now that gives me confidence that 6km out won't be an issue with a few pics ha ha

This is basically the same distance as I was game to go with my MP1 and giant battery, granted it had some battery in reserve but it was struggling a bit with the weight

I flew mine at Sport mode 30,137FT distance and flew back in normal mode. This cost me being reported by FAA after I posted the video on my YouTube channel thinking that the fact I used spotters makes it legal. I was wrong. Also, the Mavic 3 when I hit Return to Home gained 14 ft altitude uncommanded and put me on 414 FT and was another violation. As soon as I realized I corrected the altitude.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND doing this in the US.

With range the M3 does not suffer at all, the battery will run out before the range does

Glad I don’t post my drone-hacks modified Air2S videos where I may or may not go “quite a bit” higher than 400 ft.

I was doing a master shots test and during the execution there may have been an unwanted and unintended violation.  I have yet to go back out and confirm if master shots ignores the altitude limit set by user, OR if the user (me) had a higher than normal altitude limit set that allowed for the behavior to occur (that's a possibility, as I frequently fly in terrain where ground level elevation changes rapidly).

I've been making it part of my pre-flight to check my altitude restriction, and I may have forgotten during that flight.
P.S.  I do not condone violation of FAA's 400' AGL regulation.

I dont bust peoples balls about distance flying so much, but flying up above 400 feet I have always felt is much much more dangerous and reckless on the part of drone pilots. If you are at 200 foot altitude and are flying out over the ocean for 4 miles, or out over a wooded area, the worst case scenario here is that you lose your drone somehow, and it crashes into the ocean or a tree. However, when you start flying up in altitude the worst case scenario there is you fly up and collide with a manned aircraft, cause an accident, and people die. I never get nervous regarding distance, but altitude that exceeds 400ft to me always makes me nervous because of the risk. All we need is for one idiot to have a drone up way over limit and cause an accident, and you would have a massive power grab from the government that will clamp down severely on drone usage. This is why I will chastise people for flying above 400ft. (unless where legally excepted, as there are exceptions provided under FAA Rule where 400ft can be exceeded by a drone)

I live out in the country, and most all my flying is over nothing but woods. However, I do have an air force base that is like 45 miles away. I routinely have military aircraft fly over my property, and I have seen them come over my property  many times at altitudes below 1000 feet. I swear many times they appear to be just above the tree line. I have always had this nightmare in my mind of being out with my drone when they come buzzing by. If I was up over 400ft at one of these moments I could easily collide with them. These folks who fly up into the clouds and stuff are risking a lot, and threatening our hobby severely. All it will take is one accident and we will see drones become so regulated that many of us may not even be able to continue in the hobby.

Tornado that is so true. When the FAA agent contacted me to talk about my 30,000FT range test, he was more concerned about my altitude being at 414FT than actually was (379 AGL but that is another topic) than the 4.14 miles in excess of the 1.2 miles base line.

Yea I'm curious about your report with the FAA. Did they fine you anything? Did they question you regarding whether you had passed the TRUST exam for recreational fliers? Did they inquire as to whether the drone was registered properly? I'm just legitimately curious how that investigation went.

Ive often wondered about these range tests. I actually like watching them. Dustin Dunhill over in Hawaii is famous for his good range tests. He took the mavic 3 out further than any other drone, and he has tens of thousands of views on his videos. I have no doubt multiple people have reported him to the FAA, as someone did you, but somehow his videos are still there, as are many others from other people. Did the FAA agent ask you to delete the video or anything? Im just curious.

Also watch out of flying in DOC areas in NZ without the $60 pre approval fee paid and DOC authorization. Have had a good telling off about that. We are starting to see lots of signs down south popping up saying no drones in DOC areas and  $800 fee if you get caught in DOC areas without authority! I'm starting to use the NZ Walking Commission app which shows you exactly what is and isn't DOC/Public Access Land. Also very handy for finding paper roads! Very cool to hear your drone is being replaced will get an M3 eventually. I'm down in Queenstown.
