When trying to view 5k footage from my Mavic 3 the footage stutters and is highly choppy. I was wondering if my computer can handle 5k footage but 5k footage from my Air 2s plays fine on my computer. Is there a difference in the 5k footage from both of these drones to areas of where it wont play on my computer from the Mavic 3 or do I maybe have a defective unit. I've tried 5k footage on a 2016 MacBook Pro and a 2017 27in Imac 5k. I also thought it may be the memory card I'm using. I'm using a SanDisk Extreme micro SD 128GB A2 160MB/s Read and 90 MB/s write. It says V30 and 3 on it, I don't know if thats the issue. 4k 60 comes out buttery smooth on the Mavic 3, its just the 5k. Any help would be appreciated or if anyone else has experienced anything similar

To play 5K you would need a good pc that can handle it. I used to have similar issues with my older PC but after upgrading it all plays smooth. It also depends on your monitor, can it handle 5K? Are you shooting in H264 or H265? Some devices cannot handle H265 as yet.

so many factors including as mentioned by suren.  if you want to help, stay away from h265 until you know what you are getting. once you've established, h265 will work.  make sure your player will work with 5k which means vlc.  the mac computers you mentioned do not sound like they will completely handle video playback so make your equipment is fully capable.  a video files has other attributes such as bitrate that matters.  if you really want make things all equal, try uploading your 5k video to youtube and then playback from there.  finally i got tired of the issue and in order to tackle the challenge today and long into the future, it's time to start looking at m1, m1 pro, and mi1 max mbp laptops.

I haven’t had the opportunity to check but it may be that I’m shoot in h265. The reason I say this is because 5k video will play from the Air 2s. If this is the issue and I just need to film using h264 , will there be any difference in the video quality if I use h264 opposed to h265

i dont think you will notice a difference in quality but h265 should be a small file size.  imo h265 is more desirable if you can handle it.

The bit rate on the Mavic 3 is significantly more than the Air 2S so it will take more resources to play it back.

Hello there. I am sorry for the trouble that this has caused and thank you for reaching out. As posted above kindly please try using a different PC that can handle 5K video playback to see if the said issue will persist? Thank you.

Looks like you have more than one factor playing against you.

1) your card is listed under the "standard bitrate cards", not the high bitrate list in the Storage section of the specs at https://www.dji.com/uk/mavic-3/specs

2) your machines are a little long in the tooth for these bitrates. I'd say your were probably lucky to get smooth playback from the Air2S at max bitrate.

3) As Kerry says, the M3 max bitrate (up to 200Mbps) is significantly higher than the Air2S (max 150Mbps)

An interesting test would be to process your footage down to, say 2k7 and see how that plays back. If it's smooth, with no dropped frames, then the card is not the problem.

I uploaded it to YouTube and the playback is fine . I’m assuming like you said, my computers are long in the tooth

Or just shoot at 4K at .264. My M3P video looks out of this world on my 4K TV and it's easier on my computer with a 10 years old CPU.

Just wanted to put an update in here. By default the Mavic 3 is in h264. I switched to h265 and the 5k video now plays fine on my computers. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro and a 2017 5k iMac. Just posting here in case anyone was worried that video wouldn't play on their devices

Glad to see you got to the bottom of it, and found a workable solution. h265 is a more efficient codec if your hardware can handle it, so it's good that you can.
