DJI MAVIC 3 REVIEW - IS IT WORTH IT?


A review by a UK photographer.

Enthusiastic! Isn't he? Mind you ,so would I be if Dji gave me one gratis. Great drone though, or will be in January.

I thought he bought that one.    But then he doesn't seem to know the UK rules either.

Interesting video DA.  

Been doing a bit or research and I think that what has driven the price up the most on the M3 is for the Hasselblad camera.  

Still hoping the January firmware updates come out on time and add all the missing features.  

Seems there is no middle road on the M3.  People either really like it or hate it.  I'm still sitting on the fence about the M3.

Yes,   just like marmite.

He is quite happy with it.
Although his tone of voice is a bit less enthusiastic.

It is interesting to see this pattern with every DJI release (and I feel it works the same with any other complex tech product release).

There are things 'wrong' with the new product (bugs) that the manufacturer somehow missed and they really should fix it. People complain about that and that is quite logical. Usually they are quietly fixed in updates.

And there are (a lot of) things that are 'different' from what people expected them to be.
Usually (and with the M3 this is no different if you ask me) this is the majority of what people are complaining about.
It does not do this, this feature is missing, I can't do that (which my older drone could) etc. etc.

Sometimes the decisions the manufacturer made are questionable for the new users, but quite often they are just a matter of 'getting used to a new way of working'.

And TBH, if I would have the M3, I would just get that thing into the air and start shooting.

Not many things yesterday, just work.
I will be painting on Saturday again.
Really  want to avoid painting over paint that has not bonded properly.

No probs.   rain here today so I wont testing the smart controller.   It came with Litchi installed so I may have a plan with mission planner instead.   Between coats of varnish that is.

Moe varnish for me today,  should get them finished and delivered back this afternoon.   This varnish is dry after 20 minutes.    Im very pleased with it so far.

I had a little play with it yesterday,   theres a lot of places for things to get hidden into so will take a little bit of practice,  I will probably only use it for waypoint missions.

They were very subtle,  but because the varnish is so flat they show up after its applied.  If Id brushed them on I dont think you'd have seen them.

Yes, I had no issues.
But this was in 2017

I might not be able to achieve perfection,   but if I aim for it I get a better result than just accepting mediocre.

No it doesn't support Mini2,   the SDK for that is due for released on December 31st.  But I guess Im stuck with the version Ive got unless I buy it,  dont see anyway to update the app that came pre installed.

Theres no App Store on the controller and the Litchi instructions say to install the amazon play store to install it.

Exactly,   theres only a couple of apps installed on it,  the Fly and Go4 apps,  a browser and a file manager.

Not bad per sé.
Since that removes a lot of the rubbish you get on Android phones these days.
