Cheers DT,   its moored up outside the marina that does repairs so I guess thats why its there.

Yes I saw where Storm Barra was forecast gales and snow to most of the UK.  Hunker down and stay warm.

Cheers DT,  we only got some sleet/hale for about 20 minutes but still too windy for flying.   We did have a nice log fire last night to make it cosy.

Yes the fire is nice and we only burn free wood which is a bonus.

Yes,  only down side is I have to cut it up and season it.   The local tree surgeon drops off a truck load when he's working in the area,  he doesn't pay to dispose of it and I get free wood.

For free it is worth cutting up and seasoning it.  What type of trees is he cutting mostly?

We get all sorts really,  but never ever oak.   Mostly fruit trees and pine this year and some sycamore.

A friend that does woodwork hates to work with pine.  He says the wood is too soft and if you cut enough pine that you get a sap build up on the blade.  I saw the blades out of his planer and they were coated with sap and pine tar (?) after 3 hours of planing.  He said if you burn it in your fireplace the same coating will happen.  However, he does like to burn it in his firepit when they do nighttime get togethers for a beer or two, or three.....

Yes pine is not great for burning or machining,   I mixed it with the other woods and sweep the chimney twice a year.  I have my own brushes and it only takes 20 minutes to do it.

Chimney sweeping is easy,   you can but a brush for about £10 and the rods are the same as the ones you use for drains.   Takes longer to get everything out and washing it than actually sweep it.
