Feeling a bit more confident with the replacement unit, today I took my new M3C "Maverick" with me on my weekend hike into Lang Ranch Open Space.
This is one of my weekend routes, during the week I favor another local park for hiking.
I did a few flights, trying to get a bearing of how comfortable I feel with this unit.
I tried several video modes (which I'm not ready to share yet). All in all feels good. Next time I might get it over the ocean.
Street mode map was working. Satellite still did not, despite the fact it was supposed to be cached during my previous flights around my house which is only 2 miles away. I did not have a chance to use hotspot (for some reason RC Pro is bot too willing to use my iPhone as hotspot), so that is TBD.
I got top speed clocked at about 47mph, which is as expected. In the past, I only got close to and above 50mph when there was an opportune wind. Suffice to say 47mph is pretty nice, can get you pretty far pretty fast.
Recording worked fine as well, both one screen and the real one.
One of the things I was trying to test is the transfer speed from the internal SSD to my PC hard drive (which is also SSD). Like many of you, I have read some horror stories about the feature being non-usable. Well, not in my case. I got 6Gb+ worth of video transferred to my PC in about, oh, whole 15 sec. I understand a full 1Tb would take a tad longer, but come on, it's a fairly decent speed. I really don't understand what the whole fuss is about. Granted, if you're using USB 2 or god forbid USB 1, or if your HDD is slow on the uptake, you'd have to wait, but hey, it's not the drone issue, is it? FWIW, I did the transfer twice, once with the basic cable, and second time with the "lighting" cable. Speed was the same.
The light was totally "blah", clear blue sky, almost no clouds - typical SoCal.
I still got one pano, just for the sake of it. 3x8 = 24 frames, in manual, greek step pattern, stitched in ACR without any issues.
