He does look rather curmudgeonly, doesn't he. ( There's an Old English word for you !   )   Someone has draped a bit of Xmas decoration around his shoulders, for a laugh, I guess.

Yes, but it's not very informative. Just the date of installation etc.

He certainly is.  I first saw chainsaw carving in France, about ten years ago. At the Refuge de L'arche ( a zoo) in Chateau Gontier

Nice to see sort of a "sequel" to the first one and to know that the mystery of the creator has been solved.

A nice picture, and a nice totem. The owl indeed looks a bit grumpy, maybe it doesn't like the festive decoration :-)

I don't know if the sculptor of this one is the same guy who did the first one - I have no information on that yet.  There is another one further away which I will try to visit soon.

I ran across a chainsaw carver by the name of Mike McVay back in the late 70s in Washington state.  He and his sister were famed throughout the US for their chainsaw carvings.  Years later in Alaska I ran across my first person carving ice with a chainsaw.  Very creative individuals.

I've seen examples of ice carving, but only the finished results in pictures.

It's really cool to see it in progress.  Ice shavings going everywhere, but the finished products are really something to see.

Once, on a cruise liner we watched a demonstration of fruit and vegetable carving to create quite large sculptures for table centrepieces. That was remarkable.
