As the subject suggests, asking for the masses, is it worth the upgrade from the supplied Controller (DJI RC-N1) to the RC Pro with the Mavic 3? Or is adding something similar to the Tripltek 8 Pro a more viable/financial/sensible option? This is based on the assumtion of responsible piloting; line of sight; and brightest daylight conditions. So we're not looking for range tests etc.
All your thoughts and opinions are most certainly wanted and appreciated, as it may very well assist in some of us making more warranted financial decisions.

1. No "Smart Controller" is supplied, but the "Standard Controller" that the Mini 2 also uses.

2. The DJI RC Pro is definitely worth it, as there are many more buttons and wheels that are really needed when flying!

The Smart controller and RC Pro have the extra buttons like 5d, right scroll and C1/C2 so if you're used to that you may miss them if you go back to the basic controller.

RC Pro has its shortcomings, such as no internet connection (which comes for free when you're using your smartphone with RC-1N), but in all other aspects, I find it far superior to RC-1N.

Cons: You’re limited to using standard Remote, you also have an extra piece of hardware weight is much increased you the also need a mount “More Gear”

Pros: Tripletek can be used as a tablet it has really good visibility and can be used with most dji drones.

RC Pro
Cons: Price, As of now its limited to at most only 2 dji drones, its use as a tablet is limited,

Pros: it’s incredibly compact, very clear reception 1080p 60fps, its Quick to start up, it keeps all your drone stuff in one place, it will be usable with future aircraft.

What I’ve listed above can be added to but pros and cons will probably cancel each other out.

I like the RC Pro because its firmly attached to my drone/drones, I have all I need in one unit. Its quite compact unobtrusive and I can keep my phone completely away from huge drone files.

Hi DJI Stephen, thanks for the reply. I'm concerned with the various issues people are reporting from the new RC Pro. Notably, the RC Pro seems a great option for most operations. But if things like the SD card serving no real purpose at the moment, and range enhancement being negligible (I only fly LOS as per my RePL license), it's quite a cost to justify. Coming from a Mavic Pro, P4P, and an Inspire 1 RAW with lenses, I do believe I will miss the extra mechanical controls (gimbal wheels, 5D, etc) The portability and convenience seem great. The Tripltek V8 has a 1200 nit display, 20% more than the RC Pro, so not really a selling point. And from DJI directly, I've been told that DJI may NOT offer any compensation to Australian early purchasers. I believe they will personally, but at this stage I have nothing to base that on other than previous good customer service.


EDIT: It's not a huge concern, but it would be good if the RC Pro could have taken a mobile 4G/5G SIM, or have a built in eSIM to alleviate the internet connectivity issue. Physically can't happen. Assume currently people just hotspot in most cases?

I can't at this point, since my phone is an iPhone and RC Pro is an Android.
The common assumption is that the January update will fix it. We'll see...

My fifty cents on a subject - The only plus of RC Pro is You are charging one device and no cables everything else is in favor of Tripletek 8 Pro - 1200 vs 1000 nits 8 vs 5.5 inches dedicated device Only for this drone vs multipurpose android tablet with many off the shelf apps and not to forget 1000+ vs 790 USD

... because it's not just about the screen size and the screen brightness!!!

The extra control options are a huge advantage when using the DJI RC Pro!

Is that a flybar heli you're flying? That rotor head is so tall

Cons - another monthly bill for the service. One more thing to connect before flying.  Less usability and fewer controls.

Yes it has, but some reports say its a bit buggy and difference in weight including remote and mount are a big disadvantage. Portability is hugely important.

I ended grabbing an RC Pro, and do enjoy the convenience, controls, ergonomics, etc.
The Trip idea I dropped once I seen the specs for the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which I have just received (needed a new phone anyway).
6.8" screen and a blinding 1750 nits! Processing power and battery for days. Loving it

It's simple process to link the RC Pro to a hotspot on your phone. I do it all the time so that my maps are updated on the RC Pro (one example)

To me the RC Pro is not only about the screen, it allows me to NOT having to use that toys r us controller!

100% agreed. If you are into manual controls for photo/video, you will find it fast and easy to do this via all the customizable buttons. Much can be done without looking down at the screen.

I am still wondering why they offer a cell service in such a big ,huge,and why not
add heavy ,bulky form factor.For the rest of it as a tablet to fly,hard to beat.

to get a Tripletek straight from the manufacturer is under 300 USD, without shipping, I have no idea why you guys pay this insane prices just to have the logo laser engraved in front. It really beats me...is a matter of show off in the field with the colleagues? Anyway maybe I am just old fashion, and I do not care about the logo.

I agree with Frankymuskis, the Rc Pro is definitely worth it. with more buttons including its own wheel for the zoom the Dji Rc Pro just allows for more functionality when flying.
