Its not really clear why they are doing it either.   The wood is to being taken,  just left to rot for the insects.

You're very welcome DA.  Shame about today's weather but maybe tomorrow will bring a little break in the weather for you.  Hit 80F today here but lots of scattered showers and clouds, so basically a no-sun day.

More fog and rain today,  took the M2P out early for sunrise but a complete wash out,   Just modified my hard case inner foam to take the Smart controller.  I guess that means I keeping it.

Oh yes.  If you modified the inner foam that is a positive indication it's a keeper.

Oh yes.  If you modified the inner foam that is a positive indication it's a keeper.

I did a nice little modification, so the smart controller sits at 45 degrees going me some space under it for the bit and bobs.   The belt sander made a nice job of it too.

I think if I was travelling or going somewhere especially to get a shot them I will pack the standard controller just in case,   especially if Im driving.   But when Im just on a walk about I dont feel the need.

That makes perfect sense.  

Toting the standard RC just gives you a bit of redundancy while traveling.

I checked my hard case and the M2P controller fits with my smart controller nicely I just have to remove the sticks from the standard remote.
