Known locally as the Lion's Head well, this natural source of Spring water at Buxton runs permanently - even on a cold day like today.
The mineral waters are at a constant 27 degrees Celsius, and the source is free to anyone bringing their own container.
Carved into the stone receptacle below the lion's mouth water spout, is the legend:
A WELL OF LIVING WATERS.

I was a bit sceptical myself - but that's Wikipedia for you.
I put my hand under the flow, and it didn't feel particularly cold.
I would have thought maybe 12 degrees?

Weird.  google is saying 27c or 28c.  I think go back with a temperature probe.

Great shots!    Interesting that it stays at 27 C year around.  Did you give it a taste?

Well, it's free, so why not. A bit of a tang to it.   You can buy it bottled, in supermarkets. Buxton Spring Water.   There's a constant stream of folks coming to fill up at the well though.  One woman was quite impatient waiting until I had done taking a couple of shots

Hi Ann. No, it's quite amazing. Apparently the water comes from deep underground at a constant 27 degrees Celsius.  It was around zero degrees in Buxton that day, and the water running out felt  just lukewarm to the touch.

People come there all year round to fill receptacles with the water to take home. It's free. Although you can buy it bottled from retail outlets or supermarkets - Buxton Spring Water.

Well it's a free resource, so why would anyone pay for it. Unless it was processed on an industrial scale with all the health and safety regulations that abound. One company already markets, from a different source in the area.  A huge business investment.
