Is this a steamboat working up a head of steam?
No, it's a narrowboat on the canal, burning damp wood in the stove to heat the cabin.
Very little wind today, so the smoke is drifting lazily Northward.

Hi Depp. Thanks. It had been a dull and damp day, but as I began my afternoon walk, the sun eventually came out and brightened the last couple of hours of daylight considerably

Nicely captures.  the local barges here have wood burners and theres something nice about the smell.

I'm always surprised just how many of these narrowboats seem to be occupied on a permanent basis.

It was a welcome sight. Today haas been dry and cold, somewhat overcast. Didn't stop us taking a walk along the Fernilee reservoir though. And the Mavic Mini came too

The ducks are prolific along the canal - geese and moorhens and coots as well. You can't walk far without encountering some.  The afternoon was just getting sunny as evening approached.

Its become popular in London as its a lot cheaper than traditional property,  even Bear Grylls has one.

There's a few companies in the Northwest (Northwich and Liverpool) who will build you one to spec.  Used to be around £1000 per foot. I expect it's quite a bit more now.  The real expense is for a mooring (which are like hen's teeth around here) and without which you cannot put a  narrowboat on the canals.
