Happened a few times now, I simply lose control of the drone I get an error message saying check network permissions on wifi, the drone does eventually reconnect but doesn't tell me I just have to keep trying to control it and suddenly it works or I see the video feed change to live view again.  I'm using an iPhone XR which is in aeroplane mode and piloting via the Tello FPV app.  It makes me nervous as first time happened was 20M above the road outside my house and it hovered there for what felt like quite some time.

Any suggestions?

Hi, how far were you when the disconnection occurs?

The tello has a maximum range of 100m in perfect conditions. In a crowed area you are to expect 20m max.

Also if you take your phone off ariplane mode and activate wifi and bluetooth, check to see if that resolves the issues.

First time about twenty metres, then second time just over my head.  So leave Bluetooth and 4g switched on my phone? It worked fine for a week only just happened, I’ve spoken to the developer of the Tello FPV app and he’s confirmed it’s not app related.

Ah ok was the issue resolved when you contacted them?

The reason I am asking is beacuse it can become a huge problem. My neighbour bought a tello it disconnected and flew away never to be seen again.

I think it’s because the phone was in low power mode, that seems to have solved the trick.  Mine never flew away, it always just stops!
