Hi,

Does anyone have more technical details on when the 10 bit recording kicks in?

Is it only when it shoots DLog in all wrappers (H264/H265) or only with ProRes?  And if it's only in ProRes will it work without DLog as well? I can't seem to find a clear peice of info on this subject.

Many thanks

Phil

10bit is only in DLOG, with any codec.
EDIT: You can always load video in an editor to verify of course.

ProRes footage shot in 'normal' color mode on the M3 Cine is also 10 bit.

Just to pick up,

As Tornado12 suggested, I ran some test clips with all the different video flavours through Mediainfo - (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo) and between that a few other sites I've drawn up a list of what I think are more in depth specs.

Please feel to correct me as I would love to get to the bottom of this.

ProRes 422HQ - Normal MOV MPEG 4 - 10 Bit - 4:2:2 - 3,772 Mb/s..I think?  - YUV - BT.709
ProRes 422HQ - DLog MOV MPEG 4 - 10 Bit - 4:2:2 - 3,772 Mb/s ? - YUV - BT.709

H.265 Normal - HEVC (hvc1)  MPEG 4 - 8 Bit - 4:2:0 - 140mb/s -YUV - BT.709
H.265 DLog - HEVC (hvc1)  MPEG 4 - 10  Bit - 4:2:0 - 140mb/s -YUV - BT.709

H.264 Normal - AVC (avc1)  MPEG 4 - 8 Bit - 4:2:0 - 200mb/s -YUV - BT.709
H.264 DLog - AVC (avc1)  MPEG 4 - 10 Bit - 4:2:0 - 200mb/s -YUV - BT.709
