I was flying my drone and suddenly the height indication goes weird....  [ oops  not true, watching the news on tv | asleep the 2e time ]

Amazing how the air pressure wave from the Tonga volcanic eruption travels around the world!
A wave traveled 16.5000 kilometers from Tonga over the Arctic to The Netherlands in 15 hours,
the second wave traveled 23,500 kilometers over the Antarctic to us in 21,5 hours time.

See the chart for the air pressure rise and fall. (y-axis scale line = 1 mbar)

Guess no one had their drone in the air that time....  ;-)

Yes, you were watching TV and would have been the only one if you would have been flowing the drone. He he he....

Interesting, thanks JJB!  We were watching news when it happened. I flew my drone later that afternoon and did not notice any flying or telemetry issues.

The news footage of the satellites' view is stunning. Best of luck to the affected folks in Tonga.

saw a video with the big bang, scary * 100 !  and in Peru few people were killed bc of a Tsunami wave...it is all unbelievable!

Since it was heard in New Zealand I wonder what the sound or pressure wave did to folks in Tonga.

I'm based in South Wales, so we have a pretty similar latitude to the Netherlands

Looks like it arrived slightly later for you


I also picked up some radio interference too, the big dips are much greater than normal, for both noise (yellow) and signal quality (green)

Sensisivity of barometric sensors is amazing!
